Playing off the Javelina Jundred race format, Course 5 will be three laps. The first lap is counter clockwise, lap 2 is clockwise, lap 3 will again be counter clockwise. The three laps will be run consecutively while keeping your GPS running for a total elapsed time for all three laps. Total distance is about 3.75 miles with 700 feet of gain.
To get to the start/finish, drive south on Downs across China Lake Blvd. Continue south toward the Rademacher Hills sign near Lower Lone Ridge trailhead. From there, continue south on the Downs dirt road for .9 miles. The road is somewhat sandy. Most 2wd cars should be able to make it to the start area but if you are in doubt, please park somewhere along the dirt road and walk up. Just after the RC4 road marker turn left and the start will be there on your right.
The course starts south and uphill, going counter-clockwise. After a short hill, it briefly flattens out then you will head up another small incline followed by a short downhill section. Just past the RC 70/96 sign, go right at the fork. At about .32 miles turn left and head up the wash. At about .4 turn right and head uphill. You will soon see an RC 96 sign with a heart sticker on it. Turn left at the sign and go downhill. Just before the wash at the bottom of the hill you will see a single track bike trail. Turn left and proceed north on the bike path (this bike trail is called Big Horn). You will stay on this bike path all the way back to the start area. At approximately .8 you will cross a dirt road and just past that you will see a fenced off mine on your right. Proceed on the bike trail all the way back to the start/finish.
Once you get to the start/finish you will reverse your direction for lap two and go clockwise. At the end of lap two, again reverse direction and go counter clockwise for lap three.
The green buttons will take you to a Course page on Garmin Connect, or a Route on Strava. If you need a .gpx file, you will be able to download that from either of these route pages. You can review the route navigation instructions here.
The Strava map has a little glitch. On the uphill stretch of laps 1 and 3, their route jumps over to another path too soon. You will need to ignore that.
